Breakouts

Small Group Work:

Our students are most engaged when they have multiple opportunities throughout the class day to apply what they are learning, interact with other students in the cohort, and receive expert feedback from the presenter(s) on their answers/responses.

A few guidelines for breakouts/group work:

  1. State the purpose/expected outcome of the breakout session/group work, and specify any documents students should be referencing.
  2. Mention when breakout sessions should start and end. Consider using a timer to stay on schedule.
  3. Schedule each breakout session for at least 8 minutes – we need that time for placement and actual group work.

Also,

  1. You will be made a co-host so you can join any breakout groups on Zoom.
  2. We recommend 2-3 application activities/exercises for every four hours of instruction.
  3. During small groups, have someone be the reporter (the person who will share out with the rest of the class). The person in this role can change throughout the session.
  4. Groupings are generally kept consistent throughout the class day unless arranged otherwise.
